About Me

I retired from UCM last May and had hoped to have woven many baskets by now, but I've not had the time I hoped.  The picture I uploaded is the last three I've done this summer.  I'm hoping winter will give me time to do some weaving and attend your meetings and see what the organization is about.

About Me

Artist Statement:

From the environment, I devise visual qualities and inspiration from the physical objects around me, whether they are from the natural world or the industrial world, and create tension within the color palette. During a meditative state, I engage and transfer the energy and power of color through graphite, fibers, and acrylic. Colors and textures roll and leap from the canvas as I manipulate the visual elements and principles of the color, line, texture, movement, and pattern. The resulting variants and contrasts reflect the complexities and tension of the issues that I define as most relevant.

Within my work, I explore how fate determines the differences and variations within humanity. Where will we be concerning human kind, our choices, and the environment in one hundred years? These thoughts are unfathomable at times. Our differences can destroy us or connect us. It is our choice. It is my choice to believe that there is more good in our world. If you expect more, you get more and we all should expect more of ourselves... and of others. The power of such acts could make significant changes in our lives now . . . and 100 years from now.

About Me

About the Artist, Jo Henning

Jo Henning was born with a passion to create art, so much so that she ate crayons as a child. Though the crayons made her sick, they didn’t diminish her love for the creative process. She earned a Bachelors and a Masters degree in art and has been creating  artwork since.

Her artistic accomplishments include many different mediums, but she favors two-dimensional painting. Three of her oil paintings are on permanent display at the Lafayette County courthouse in Lexington, Missouri. Her historical painting, depicting early life in Lafayette County, was part of a traveling exhibit at the Missouri State Capitol. She spent five years researching and hand-designing a detailed historical map of Bourbon County, Kansas, which is still available for purchase.

Jo believes strongly in helping other artists grow and in promoting art in her community. In 2006, she opened Valley of Many Deer Gallery near Holden. The Gallery is a venue for local artists and writers to exhibit their works.

About Me

I use digital cameras for my photography.  In the past, I used an SLR with Kodachrome film, but with slides passe and little control over comercial print film processing, I moved to digital.  My current camera is a Pentax K-X.
